Dave Farmer

Dave is the director/manager at our Leatherhead store. He has worked on and off at Cycleworks for approaching ten years, starting as a mechanic and is now a company director, and before that was a customer at the original Godalming store as soon as it opened. He is the business technical guru so you can ask him anything (just be prepared to sit down for the detailed answer – stop me if I am boring you! Dave). He knows pretty much every trail/road in the Surrey hills and regularly leads our Tuesday night ride.

davefarmerprofile

Dave has been riding bikes pretty much since he could walk, with his riding covering a very wide range of styles.

This year (2009) Dave placed 44th in the Surrey League (road racing), 18th in the Surrey League Handicap Road race series and raced the Guildford town centre races, which Cycleworks sponsored. His best mountainbike race of the year resulted in 4th place in the 2nd Gorrick race at tunnel hill in February 2009 in the super Masters catagory, then 13th at the first Southern XC race at Bordon in March. after March he focussed on the road racing this year as he was enjoying it so much, racing Tuesday’s at Dunsfold or Crystal Palace, then Thursday’s at the Surrey League handicap Series, and at the weekend racing whatever race was not full up.

Dave is also a Cytech Level 2 certified mechanic.

Bike(s):

  • Specialized Tarmac S-works with a Campagnolo Chorus 10 speed groupset (yet to upgrade to 11 speed). Fulcrum racing one TUBELESS wheels. This bike is FAST, stiff and great fun on the Surrey lanes. I just gotta grow some bigger legs, my new powertap hub should help with with this:)
  • Racelight RC road bike with a mix of campagnolo Veloce, Chorus and Centaur bits. This is my training bike, and rarely gets cleaned, but sees A LOT of miles
  • Orange Five; I own a rather special Orange five, it came into being out of me suggesting a few changes to the frame that I reckoned would bring the bike up to date. Orange were open to the idea of making a few ‘STRANGE’ fives so that they could see if they worked or not. And it does!!! The changes are, a tapered headtube, a 30.9mm seattube, the toptube length of an 18” frame but the height of a 16”, ISCG mounts and a Maxle rear QR.
  • Specialized Epic s-works, Xtr drivetrain and TUBELESS wheels and brain shocks that are far cleverer than me.
  • Whyte 19 Carbon hardtail, 23lbs and fast yet stable. (the epic is faster as a race bike though, full suspension wins for speed in my opinion)
  • Crosslight cyclocross bike. A ratty collection of parts, and so wrong that it is right (especially when overtaking people on singletrack)

Nick Frendo

Nick is the company’s qualified Specialized BG Fit technician, so if you want to “go faster longer and in more comfort” then he’s the man to talk to. As part of his training he will be attending the next stage at Specialized HQ which will allow him to FIT time trial and triathlon bikes very soon.

Nick is a self confessed bike tart and is always on the hunt for new shiny stuff.

Nick’s favourite riding spots are The Surrey Hills (obviously), including the Surrey lanes on his two road bikes, The Lakes and Southern Spain. Favourite trail is Tourettes (S*@T! F&#K!) and the best ride he’s ever done was a 2 day epic over 4 mountain passes to the coast from Mecina Fondales to the Sea and back . Nick can’t wait to take his road bike to the mountains very soon.

Bike(s):

  • Limited edition Specialized Roubaix SL2 team Saxo Bank. SRAM Red groupset. Dura-Ace TUBELESS wheels, FSA K-Force Light chainset, stem and seatpost, it’s very pretty/fast/light.
  • Orange Five with Fox TALAS forks with new 15mm lower legs, Hope Pro 2 hubs and Mavic XM819 TUBELESS rims, SRAM XO and Avid brakes (much to the disgust of everyone in the company) It’s scary light for a Five.
  • Wilier Mortirolo (as a Winter/”Training” bike) built with a mix of Dura-Ace and 105.
  • Whyte 19 Trail (custom paint job) with RockShox Reba Race SL forks, SRAM XO, Avid ElixR brakes and Chris King/XM819 TUBELESS wheelset.

Phil Cordery

Phil’s a downhiller, dirt jumper and budding cross country rider and he’s learning more all the time. You can normally find him riding the surrey hills or down at Eshershore having a good time on whichever bike he pulled out the shed first.

philcordery

His first serious bike that got him into the more aggressive side of mountain biking was a 2000 Specialized S-Works Downhill bike. He’s now moved on to an Orange 224 for the gravity assisted riding but the old Speccy frame is still at home hanging from the wall.

Apart from the Surrey hills Phil’s been riding at Afan in Wales, Fort William in Scotland, Morzine in France and will be back there again for a couple of weeks in the summer. Plans for this year are to race cross country and downhill, increase fitness by riding more frequently on days off as well as Tuesday nights with the shop. A couple more trips to the Welsh trail centres are in the pipeline too

Phil is also a Cytech Level 2 certified mechanic.

Bike(s):

  • Orange 224 for downhill racing and freeriding built up with Rockshox Boxxers, Saint cranks/MRP chain device, Sram gears, XT brakes and Hope/Mavic wheels.
  • Marin Attack Trail for cross country and all mountain riding- off the peg…for now.
  • Atomlab Trailpimp for dirt jumping, built with Rockshox Pikes and a singlespeed setup.
  • 2000 Specialized S-Works Downhill frame, awaiting buildup.

Sergi Canadas

Sergi started with us as a Saturday lad, and it now working full time before going on to further education. He is very enthusiastic and keen to learn everything about bikes, this knowledge is increasing all the time. All his bikes are very carefully colour co-ordinated, and all his wages get poured back into them (I don’t know why we even bother paying him! Dave).
