Dave Farmer

Dave is the director/manager at our Leatherhead store. He has worked on and off at Cycleworks for approaching ten years, starting as a mechanic and is now a company director, and before that was a customer at the original Godalming store as soon as it opened. He is the business technical guru so you can ask him anything (just be prepared to sit down for the detailed answer - stop me if I am boring you! Dave). He knows pretty much every trail/road in the Surrey hills and regularly leads our Tuesday night ride.

Dave has been riding bikes pretty much since he could walk, raced all types of mountain bike from Downhill to cross country and has ridden in many far off places and countries.

Dave is also a Cytech Level 2 certified mechanic.

Bike(s):

  • Orange Five, built with Rockshox revelation forks, Mavic tubeless rims and lightweight parts. I have owned a Five since they were launched in November 2003, I reckon I will always have one.
  • Marin Attack Trail. This year Marin has lent me an Attack Trail, to try and tempt me away from my beloved Orange Five as my trail bike. I really like the bike, you can really chuck it into corners and down hills. But is it still an efficient trail bike...? Current opinion is that I am very very impressed by it but will it tempt me to sell the Orange?
  • Custom built Titanium singlespeed MTB, built with Rockshox Reba forks and light dependable kit, tubeless wheels of course! I ride this single-speed more than any other MTB, great in the winter, great in the summer, don’t knock it till you have tried it!
  • Specialized Epic Expert 2008. Very specific XC racing bike. Very good at this discipline of off-road riding. When I am on a good day this bike is as fast as a greyhound through singletrack and up hills.
  • Specialized Tarmac SL2 road bike, built with campag chorus and Easton Orion wheels, it is fast, very fast. If you have not ridden a light modern road bike on the Surrey lanes, try it. I have been a mountain biker as long as I can remember, but am firmly bitten by the road bug now too.
  • Enigma Etape titanium road bike, winter bike with mudguards and Campag Mirage, a workhorse commuter for riding in all weathers

Nick Frendo

If he's not on the Surrey Hills then Nick can normally be found out in The Apuljarras, Sierra Nevada, Southern Spain with Ciclo Montana Espana. He's a frustrated 12 and 24 hour racer and enjoy all types of riding having toyed with most. Nick is a self confessed bike tart who suffers from O.B.P.D., Obsessive Bike Purchase Disorder.

Nick's favourite riding spots are The Surrey Hills (obviously) The Lakes and Southern Spain. Favourite trail is Tourettes (S*@T! F&#K!) and the best ride he's ever done was a 2 day epic over 4 mountain passes to the coast from Mecina Fondales to the Sea and back (It ruined me Nick).

Bike(s):

  • Orange Five with Fox TALAS forks, Mavic crossmax SL wheelset, SRAM XO and Avid brakes (much to the disgust of everyone in the company) It's scary light for a Five.
  • Limited edition Specialized Roubaix SL2 team Saxo Bank. Dura Ace groupset inc. wheels, FSA K-Force Light chainset, stem and seatpost, it's very pretty.
  • Wilier Mortirolo (as a Winter/"Training" bike) built with a mix of Dura Ace and 105.
  • Whyte 19 Trail with RockShox Reba Race SL forks, SRAM XO, Avid ElixR brakes and Chris King/819 wheelset.

Mike Ladbrook

Mike is a very keen road cyclist and has ridden for many years in the local race scene, and abroad. Mike comes from a family of cyclists and rides to work most days, then races in the evenings usually at least once a week. Has been known to ride/race off-road, but his first love is riding on tarmac.

Bike(s)

  • Ridley aluminium frame, Shimano Dura-ace and Mavic Kysrium wheels.
  • Ridley Damocles with Campagnolo Record and Neutron wheels.

Liam Tucker

Liam started as a Saturday boy at 15 but has now progressed to the mighty rank of full time b?*%h! He has recently gone from being a mountain biker with no interest in road bikes whatsoever to becoming a full on roadie.

Liam Tucker

Bike(s):

  • The obligatory Orange 5 with Shimano XT gearing and Rockshox Pike forks.
  • Wilier Mortirolo carbon road bike with Campagnolo bits.

Sergi Canadas

Sergi is here on Saturdays and extra shifts during the holidays. He is very enthusiastic and keen to learn everything about bikes. All his bikes are very carefully colour co-ordinated, and all his wages get poured back into them (I don’t know why we even bother paying him! Dave). Plus, he works at Sainsburys on a Sunday so gets us muffins at staff discount rate every Saturday.

Bike(s)

  • Specialized P1 jump bike.
  • Specialized SX trail.
  • And a very pretty custom built white and Neon Orange Eastern BMX.

Ian Franklin

Ian has been a customer of Cycleworks for many years. In 2007 he began his employment as our van driver. Ian has now been promoted to a full time member of staff. He can be found at any store, as he still drives the van, and covers days off/holidays at any store.

Ian has been cycling for his whole life as far as any of us can tell, there are many many stories, just ask.

Bike(s)

  • Specialized Roubaix Comp with upgraded Easton EA70 wheels.
  • Orange Five (of course) with Fox forks, Mavic XM819 rims/Hope Pro2 hubs and XT gears.
  • On-one Scandal singlespeed.
