Whyte consider the E5 to be the first choice for endurance racers and competitive XC riders but there's much more to the bike than simply racing. With 5 inches of travel front and rear and top flight components the E5 is a great all day machine.
Technical highlights include a one-piece carbon fibre swingarm which is exceptionally stiff and strong and manages to include space for an extra water bottle as well. At the rear, Whyte's own Big Gripper dropouts combine a quick release mechanism with 20mm through axle for unparalled stiffness.
As you'd expect, the suspension is a sophisticated development of the original QUAD system used by Marin, with the linkages positioned inside the front triangle to protect the shock from the extremes of the weather. The shock is a Fox Float RP2, with Rebound Adjuster and 2 Position ProPedal Lever Adjustment with Whyte designed shock bearings for durability.
For 2007 there's a Rock Shox Reba World Cup fork with 100mm of travel and remote Pop-Loc.
The Race comes with a full top of the range Shimano XTR mix including shifters, front and rear derailleurs, chainset, cassette and so on.
This extends to the sophisticated XTR hydraulic disc brakes and an XTR wheelset which includes rims, hubs and spokes.
Finishing kit includes a carbon Easton EC70 seatpost, Monkeylite bars and Thomson stem together with a Fizik Gobi saddle with Titanium rails for comfort. It all adds up to just 24.5lbs of ultimate performance.
