Whyte consider the E5 to be the first choice for endurance racers and competitive XC riders but there's much more to the bike than simply racing. With 5 inches of travel front and rear and top flight components the E5 is a great all day machine.
Technical highlights include a one-piece carbon fibre swingarm which is exceptionally stiff and strong and manages to include space for an extra water bottle as well. At the rear, Whyte's own Big Gripper dropouts combine a quick release mechanism with 20mm through axle for unparalled stiffness.
As you'd expect, the suspension is a sophisticated development of the original QUAD system used by Marin, with the linkages positioned inside the front triangle to protect the shock from the extremes of the weather. The shock is a Fox Float RP3, with Rebound Adjuster and 3 Position ProPedal Lever Adjustment with Whyte designed shock bearings for durability.
For 2007 there's a no-cost choice of front suspension, with either the SC-32 with 80-125mm of adjustable travel from the engineering masters at Maverick, or a Rock Shox Revelation 426 with 130mm of travel.
The bike is optimised for all round trail use and has Shimano XT dual way shifters and an XT groupset that includes chainset and front and rear derailleurs.
To keep everything in check when the trail turns downhill there's Hope Mono Mini hydraulic disc brakes with stainless steel hoses and finishing kit that includes a carbon Easton EC70 seatpost, Easton EA50 stem and Fizik Nisene saddle with CroMo rails for comfort.
A strong, tough wheelset is formed from Hope Sport disc hubs and Mavic XM-717 rims.
