Dave’s ‘strange’ Five

In the Summer I sent an email to Orange asking for them to include a few of my suggestions/improvements on the 2010 Five frame.

I have ridden a Five since 2004 when they were first released, i love it, but reckon it could be improved slightly.

The changes I asked for are;

  • A longer toptube on a 16″ frame, so that I can run a short stem, and gain a little more stability from a longer front centre
  • A bigger, stiffer 30.9 seatube, also so that I can run any dropper type seatpost I like
  • Cable guides for the dropper seatpost
  • A tapered headtube to suit the new tapered steerer forks that are becoming available, for more front end stiffness under hard cornering/braking
  • ISCG mounts

Guess what, they said yes!!!! To all my asks! The frame arrived in December, and it is everything I wanted, the perfect 140mm travel bike.

MBR magazine have been given one also, see this months mag, they LOVE it!

Some of the changes may appear on stock frames in the future, some may not.
