Teenager Luke is on the England Next Generation programme – for 25 of the very best young triathletes in the country, age 15-19.  ENG operates as an ‘add value’ camp based programme and Luke enjoyed getting on the Cycleworks summer cycling kit over the February half-term training camp in sunny Monte Gordo, Portugal.  ENG also follows the philosophy of whole athlete development, to better aid athletes in the transition into post-18 life, as well as better manage the ups, downs and challenges associated with being a world leading athlete.  Selection to England Next Generation is based on factors such as race results, technical skills and the various attitudinal and performance behaviours that are requisite for long term success and development in the sport.

After a winter of high mileage training in swimming, running and cycling, Luke will go into the 2019 triathlon season competing in Youth B, a racing group transitioning from super-sprint to sprint.  Recently, he came 4th in the 800m freestyle at the Surrey Swimming Champs and 2nd in the Surrey Cross-Country Champs.  Luke has been shortlisted for East Hampshire Junior Sportsman of the Year.  Cycleworks continue to keep their faith in him!

Favourite post-race snack?

Chocolate milk and biltong (SA dried beef) for high protein, (and KFC...shhh). He also loves a full English breakfast and risotto.

Goal for the season?

Looking forward to racing in Llanelli and Blenheim soon, with the aim of qualifying for the European Youth Triathlon Champs in Austria. He is itching to put his 2018 experience, racing for GB in Spain and Jersey, to good use.
